A Half Win I Think...or is it.

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

A Half Win I Think...or is it.

Post by Ros20549 »

Well as some of you already know we had a leaky problem with our 20 months old van on our last trip, we had two very wet rainy days and the van sprung leaks in about 6 different places all around the 4 season hatch or close to it, not nice being dripped on in your bed, so " NOT HAPPY JAN " as we had no warranty as Regent went bust just 3 months after we took delivery and we had a factory warranty, but in all fairness the dealership we went though picked up the bill on a couple of small issues we had in the first 12 months. But we felt that these leaks are just not good enough so what to do, well contacted the dealer to voice our disappointment, was given the go ahead to get a quote locally and they would see what they could do, yesterday we got word that they would pay to have the 4 season hatch removed and reinstalled and the other areas would be at our expense , the repair shop said that all the silicone on the roof of van was lifting away (we have been to have a look at this) :o and in his opinion it was never prepared correctly at build so he is now replacing all this, do we have a case to chase more payment from the dealership or do we just cop it and be happy with what they are paying for ?? it is likely to cost us a couple of thousand dollars

Cheers Ros.

Ros, I also reckon you should have a crack at a claim. What have you got to lose except a few thousand dollars. Go for it.

Cop it. The dealer has already dipped in above and beyond...remember, the manufacturer has gone broke, and they have no way of recouping what they lay out. If the maker was still around, the dealer would have rightly put you back to them. The cost of a claim that may not succeed would cover the repair I would think

Hi Ros,

If that 4 seasons hatch is the newer plastic type then half the problem is that nothing in the way of silicone sticks to the plastic. No idea what the plastic is but its a sort of greasy type plastic. I tried a few different silicone on mine and after a few weeks the silicone would just peel away. The silicone stuck to the fibreglass roof alright but not to the plastic 4 seasons hatch. In the instructions for the hatch they say something along the lines that the foam rubber seal must be used or warranty is void. I can understand why as this seal is a back up to the water seeping between the silicone and plastic hatch. I reckon it also needs ALL the screws fitted in the hatch flange into good solid material underneath and don't walk any where near it again.
