Short time ago at the Tourist van park in Port Lincoln - you know the one, on a hill with the van sites terraced into the dirt - well this is where it all happened.
The car in question was normally parked 2 sites up the hill from us, across an access road. The lady of the couple had - apparently - just returned in the car from somewhere, driven in beside their van (pop-top with the Aussie flag flying) & facing down the hill.
Either the handbrake was not applied & neither was it in Park or in gear - depending in being auto or manual - so the car rolled forward, down the slope, across the access road, knocked over one of about 5 white posts positioned there no doubt to indicate not to drive through this area. Traveled down behind our van - where our Cruiser was parked - just missed it by about a meter & continued on down the hill just missing a drain pit & tap point at a lower site, also missed plowing into the front of a Sunland van at the lower level.
Then kept going down across a grass verge to the edge of the park where it meets the beach - but the beach is about 10' lower than the van park!
Car gets airborne then lands flat on all four wheels - but the nose digs in a bit - then it eventually comes to rest with all four wheels sitting in about 6" of sea water.
Missed that photo!
He managed to get the car started but was unable to drive it up the embankment near to where it came to rest - so reversed it along the beach to the other end where the bank was a bit lower but still couldn't drive it out... got bogged in soft sand.
Another park resident came to his aid with a Mazda BT50 ute & skull dragged him out of the sand & up the embankment.
Bit more damage to the car than they might have initially thought - I reckon.
Now, lets see if I can get these photo's up here...

The car was parked on the LH side of this pop-top, facing toward the camera - you can see the white post it knocked over.

Another view - the pop-top is just to the right of my Cruiser... & NO DOT - they are not my Y-fronts hanging out there. Belonga our neighbors - Pommy Old Farts.

The car in question after being towed back there - with my Cruiser in the foreground.

Where it landed on the beach.
I think I'll go out & buy a lottery ticket.

Edit: Bloody hell those pics are big!
