Has anyone noticed on ebay there are more and more USA and UK sellers than here in Australia. I would have thought Aussie sellers would be busting their guts to sell things, bu everything I have been looking for of late is always overseas. They grumble and whinge enough so maybe that's why the are loosing out.

I think it's possibly the import duty and GST monster at work. They can sell from over seas to you import duties and GST free, but for an Aussie seller to bring them into the country to sell them they must pay both, so they can no longer compete with the overseas sellers. while the AU$ was high, they could buy cheap enough to compete, but that's all changed now.
As far as products made in Aust being sold on evil bay, they are there, just not a lot of them. Plasmatronics (Dingo & Pl series) GSL electronics equipment, redarc, ledshoponline.... to name a few.

Aus post is killing this country but that's another problem. Its also the bottom line Aussie sellers are prepared to accept.

At this stage you only pay G.S.T. on goods over $1000 in value being imported into Australia........Cheers Peter.

You think so, try getting anything out of the US, now that is expensive. Far cheaper to get stuff freighted from Great Britian or Europe than from the US, yet they are supposed to be i recovery modepet-els wrote:Also Aust. Post is expensive.

But get it out of China [post free] as the government pays the postage [they want the trade, we don't].

Re: Whats wrong with aussie products.
That one is a double edged sword as well, the Chinese govt pay to get it to Aust shores and we pay, via govt assistance to Aust Post, to deliver it this end, also for free. Can you imagine one of the freight companies that are going in competition up against Aust Post doing that? If they privatise Aust Post we are going to really start paying, a privately owned postal service won't just need to break even, they will need to make a profit to pay their executive’s bonuses and shareholders dividends.
