"Tanks" New 2500/5000w Inverter & FREEZER REPORT

Post by Keith Morris »

It looks like the new toy will have to wait till I get the IVECO built. [It is for the Iveco; but I thought I could use it in the 40 Mile Beach/Cleaverville trip in the Sprinter as well.

RE: "TANKS" 2500w inverter

"tanks" here---
It looks like the Inverter will have to wait till I improve the battery bank with a Lithium setup, as I have planned for the IVECO build.

This is the e-Bay Inverter that I was going to use in the Sprinter drawing from my 2 x 100 Deep Cycle AGM's.

NEW - 2014 model--Pure Sine Wave 2500W(5000W Max) 12V-240V Power Inverter
AUSTRALIAN STANDARD & C-tick APPROVED - Best quality!!!
Store: Bit Deals
Seller User ID: bit_deals
I have purchased from this seller on several occasions and I was impressed with the quality - AND THE PRICE of their items. My $399 incl delivery Freezer was purchased from them.

THANKS FOR THE INTEREST -INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE OFFERED.

I don't think that the battery bank will last very long if I try to get 240 v, from the 12 volt [existing set-up] system through the inverter. The AGM' are almost 2 years old and I assume the batteries were run well down by another person over a few weeks when I lent him the vehicle for a holiday.

I have run a check on the new car freezer and recorded the Zantac thingo---

AT START OF RECORDING: Saturday about 11 am;
13.98v; 0.6 Amp 100%; nil H used. This was with the 240 v power and a 40 amp charger on.
6:00 pm:
12.55v; -5.5 Amps; 94.5 %; -11.0 Ah. The freezer was set for -15 c.

7:00pm:
12.49v; -8.0 Amp; 17 Ah;
91.4%; 10 h 50m
I forgot to record the freezer temp.

9:00pm:
12.54 v ; -1.1 amps; -6.3 amp; -25.6 Ah; 87.1%; 28.05 h:m
I don't know if this [ h:m] reading on the Zantac means that I have used this much, or if that is how long I can draw from the bat/bank before I get to the preset low voltage signal.

Sat Midnight:
12.68v;-1.1Amp; -31.7 Ah; 84%; 28.53 h:m. I forgot the freezer reading again.

1:00am SUNDAY:
12.54v; -1.2 Amp; -33.8 Ah; 83%; 27.01 h:m.

5:00 am:
12.47v; -1.1 Amp; -43.9 Ah; 77.9%; 24.56 h:m.

7:00am:
12.43 v;-5.8 Amp; 48.6 Ah; 75.6%; 19.49 Ah
I did the panic bit when I saw the 75.6% reading, so I started the 240 volt charger. The freezer was reading -9c, and in ECON MODE. This feature has 3 settings to cut-out and save the battery if the power is too low --I think that's what it does.

9:00am: Continuing on in a mild state of panic and anxiety.
All appears good with the 240 charger putting into my bat/bank.
13.77v; 7.1 Amp; -15.1 Ah; 92.4%; - - - - hrs; AND NOW -17c. Panic over.
Go back to welding and painting the Trailer.

10:00am;
13.83v; -1.9Amps; -1.8 Ah; 92,4%; - - - -hrs; -17c.

1:00pm:
13.91v; -1.9Amps; -1.8Ah; 100%; [plus small letters battery full at the base of the display.

4:00pm:
13.93v; 0.9Amps; 5.4Ah; bat full 100%;bat full; - - - - h bat full; -19c.

END OF THE RECORDING-- Shut the garage, forget the freezer, to hell with the Inverter on the 40 Mile Beach / Cleverville trip and be prepared to run the generator for a few hours morning and night to boost the b/bank when the Zantec thingo reads around 12 volts.

It's Sunday--The AFL is on TV and the Eagles are not doing very well. I'm going for the Dockers this week !!!.

Hi Tanks the first thing I did when I got mine, was cut off the cigarette lighter type of fitting and replaced with a 50a Anderson plug ( personal choice) as I have them scattered all through the bus and in the car as well, the car / toad is also connected to the bus batteries via an Anderson plug fitting when on the road.
I purchased a GT power watt meter from ebay, ($19.95, ) which I have fitted with anderson plugs as well and can put in series with the power source and this gives a detailed readout of all power draw amps, volts etc. I tried working off the xantrax meter but found it too hard, I have converted the connection of all appliances to anderson plugs so have been able to eliminate a lot of power wastage, such as the standby draw of the inverter which I cured by fitting a remote switch to turn it off when not in use.

"tanks" here-- thanks for the picture, and the power/watt meter thing'o.
I was thinking that I was the only person who was finding difficulty reading the Zantec monitor.

I like the Anderson Plug things as the cigarette lighter type of connection could be easily knocked out of place --Shocking thing to happen to the Weis Bars !! I have a few spare Anderson plugs but I have been too busy thinking what can I do to the Trailer; NOW THAT I AM A GREAT WELDER. {I've just got to remember to put the helmet on before I strike the arc. {Lesson 6, of Welding- 003]
Keith.

p.s: I have the little red handle attachments that fit/screw onto the Anderson plugs. It makes it easier to pull the plug out when my fingers are cramped up.

"tanks" here--

I have taken your advise: I have just purchased 20 Andserson Plugs on e-Bay for $1.00 each post free. [seller" BuyNow price = bit_deals].
I also brought the "Red Handles" that fit onto the plugs. It makes it easier to pull the plugs apart and really; they are necessary for the "Old Farts" amongst us.

I like the idea of making a "DOUBLE PLUG UNIT" with three plugs to permit connecting multiple things via the Solar or via the Generator.

I have also made up a set of leads to plug something else [?] into the solar panels if ever I have to do this, or just to charge the motor battery.
Keith.

Keith.

So the inverter/freezer ran from batteries for 13 hrs? from 6pm to 7am, then the gen for 6hrs to full again? have I got that part correct? It appears that very little improved as far as battery SOC between 9am and 10 am, so 2 hrs brought the battery back to over 92%SOC. That means 2hrs in the morning and another 2 hrs at night would see the battery back to 94% each time with only generator charging. add some portable solar and in good sun weather you could skip the 2 hrs at night. Looks like it will work fine from the batteries you have Keith, replace them when they finally die by all means, but you have the inverter and freezer, may as well get the use out of it.

"tanks" here T1-Terry,
I have taken your advise -- I was thinking that I should run the generator for 3 x 1 hour sessions especially in the morning to recharge the House Bank after the night use of lights, plus the Vitrofrigo thing (which is only 12 volt-- no gas--no 240 volt) and the new Car Freezer. At times possibly a video DVD thing to watch or a bit of TV if I can get reception. "Russell" will get pissed-off with me if he can't watch the ABC Children's hour, but hell I can live with that and smooth him over with a Smackos Beef Stick.

I will use the Vitrofrigo fridge as a Salad and fresh food fridge, and use the new 55 ltr. Car Freezer for the Weis Bars, Ice Cream, and "Russells" Chicken, and some pre-cooked meals for myself, etc.
I will keep an eye on the battery level and make sure that I have a full bank for the 12 hours night-time operation of the appliances.
If the batteries pack it in then that's a problem i'll have to face at that time.
I can't wait till I have the Lithium setup in and running on the IVECO however; this next trip to the Karratha 40 Mile Beach and Cleaverville camp sites has to be in the Sprinter, and is planned as a 3 to 4 month camp out, starting on or about 23/24th May and then returning to Perth on the 29th August.
Thanks to all for your good advice and guidance willingly offered to me.
