Put the van on Trading post yesterday. Within the hour had a email from this joker asking about it. Then today got this.
Thanks for the swift response...I am OK with the asking price.due to the nature of my job and location...i will not be able to come for inspection,am a very busy type as i work long hours everyday,i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with it.As for the payment..i will be paying you via the fastest and secure way to pay online(PayPal). If you don't have a paypal account, you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com.au and sign up.you can alternatively send your bsb and account number you can receive a direct deposit into your bank account from paypal.I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after the payment have been made ...so no shipping included. You can now send me your details so i can pay in right away and also include your address in your reply.Kindly delete the posting as am definitely buying it from you and it will not be picked up until you have your funds credit to your bank account, kindly help me look into this and get back to me asap.Thanks.

Scam.
How it works, for those who are not aware, is that the money will be paid into your paypal account and you will be happy. So happy in fact that you will gladly hand the vehicle and keys (or whatever) to the stranger who calls to collect it. Down the track you will receive a reversal of the payment from paypal because the person who paid you has not received the vehicle - and can prove that.
You gave the vehicle to a stranger! You now have no vehicle and no money.

Re: Is it a scam?????
Thanks for explaining that, Steve. I did suspect that it must have been a reversal of the Paypal payment. We all have to be on our toes to foil these sneaky buggers. Last month I received a very authentic looking email from NAB (our bank) asking me to click on a link to authenticate our online banking identity. I can see how people can easily fall into the trap. Of course, I just deleted the email.

Re: Is it a scam?????
Well done for checking first before you replied to that email.
I suggest that everyone should use the following procedure (at least) if you have any doubts about an email.
First, if it sounds fishy in any way, do not click on anything or reply unless you are sure it is OK.
Second, hover over the link without clicking and look at the lower left hand corner of the screen. My settings display the actual URL or email address before you actually click on anything. If the URL or email does not look valid (if it has a .ng for Nigeria when you expected it to be com.au) then it is most likely a scam and I suggest you delete it immediately.
Third, if it is an email as per the OP, then select a section of the email that look unique .... maybe "due to the nature of my job and location". I will normally cut and paste that unique looking section of text into Google with quotation marks at both ends .... "due to the nature of my job and location" ..... and then check the results. Most often, as in this case, you will find many other forums that have already discussed the matter and will have warnings about the email for you.
I hope this helps in some way
Cheers
Bruce

Hi, alll.
Seems that Nigerians are quite happy for their web address to show it's origin. Their view is should a victim continue on a transaction based in Nigeria then that victim suits their criteria perfectly.
A cousin once advertised a very nice Yamaha 1000 on Evilbay and promptly received a response from Malaysia, requesting account details etc. Funny - he called the police about it, then found within one hour the email vanished. Had a 60 minute bug in it. No, no, no, his computer uses Windows.
