Water problem rainwater leaning into gas compartment

Post by Peter »

I am having a problem with rain water leaking into my gas compartment. I have several other compartments of a similar design and no problems.
The external seal around he door has been resealed. The hinges at the top have also had silicone into the spaces around the hinges. However the water continues to gain entry. The water appears to get into the hollow door and then leaks out the bottom of the door into the compartment. I could seal the door on the inside where it leaks however that would only mean the hollow door would fill with water. I would prefer to seal the door somehow so water cannot gain entry.

Has anyone had a similar problem or anyone has suggestions as to how the problem can be solved.

When those doors are fitted they should seal between the door frame and the door panel they've made from the sheet the installers have cut from the side of the van.
My dad'a van had a similar problem and I forced a very small timber wedge between the skin and the actual door panel and squeezed sealer in between the two and it solved the problem.
In your case you need to seal between the panel with the blue stickers on it and the actual frame of the door. You could just run a small bead of sealer around the edge where the two meet which should seal as well.

Water finds the smallest pin holes to weep into. Real PIA. Might even be coming in through the hinges themselves. I haven't had experience with those hatches myself just a guess as that's where mine leaked.
