At that temp your icecream would be liquid Bruce.

Re: Freezer temp?
You're probably right George.
My Engel has an LCD temperature readout on the top of it. The probe is up towards the top of the deep freeze compartment and I suspect the temperature would be several degrees lower down the bottom.
I know trying to keep it at -18 makes the Engel cycle right throughout the night.
I love my icecream and don't have it rock hard or else Wendy bends the spoon!!
Dot I know you have a new unit. Does it have a gauge on it?
I think you'll just have to experiment with it. Start low & work up until you can "handle" the icecream.
If you are using it only for long term storage of meat or processed food you may need it colder.

Re: Freezer temp?
Yep here it is. It has frozen a bottle of water at this temp. Will try the ice cream later.

Re: Freezer temp?
"tanks" here===
I keep my WEIS BARS and Russell's chicken and beef snacks in the 55 litre car freezer and I run that at (-) 20c due to longer term storage. The Solar keeps the 4 x house batteries charged and the 55 litre is only a small area.
I run the house freezer at (-)10c. for the general [human] frozen food, and the fridge section at or around 3c.
The house fridge/freezer chews up the power when on 12 volt, whereas the car freezer uses very little.
I suggest that you play with it 'till you get the feel of it, and keep the WEIS Bars just right.
Keith.

Re: Freezer temp?
While the icecream that we have states to store it at -18 I find that -15 is cold enough to be able to spoon it out without difficulty yet be firm enough for enjoyment. Our domestic frig at home has temperature setting display and -15 is what We have it set at.
