RAINBOW BEACH -Sunshine Coast SINKHOLE
I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

Luckily all campers have been accounted for according to the news this morning. It would certainly be a frightening event if you where involved.
Cheers

Re: RAINBOW BEACH -Sunshine Coast SINKHOLE
SOMEBODY has a caravan/tug combo which has been converted for underwater running!
Shouldn't joke bout this one, though... it appears the couple whose caravan was swallowed had just sold up to travel, and carried many mementos with them.
Witness on radio this morning told of other campers swinging at the tow hitch with a sledge hammer trying to decouple the 4WD before it went under. Couldn't detach it, unfortunately.
I'd love to read their insurance claim form!

Re: RAINBOW BEACH -Sunshine Coast SINKHOLE
Apparently it's only 3 mtrs deep, a group rental of a helicopter to lift them out one at a time, a bit of a clean out and change the oils, fuel and filters and ready for sale interstate
Does this mean camping near the beach could require a depth sounder and poking with metal rods to see if there is enough sand under you to keep you on the surface?

The suction in the sand/water mix is tremendous.
We had a dozen or more cars hit by a high tide & most were destroyed by trying to pull them out with a front end loader.
A couple paid the extra to dig out all around them before the attempt.
