Jayco Slide-out

Post by bobk »

Hello to all, it's been a while but I haven't been sleeping, just watching the world go by.
Moved the Jayco (2002 Westport 25ft with single slide-out) to my son's place the other day so he could swan off to Darwin for a week or so. While setting up I pushed out the slide-out and encountered some resistance. Managed to push it out the full distance but on checking the reason for the resistance, I discovered the surrounding seal had folded over and wedged up. I wiggled it loose and pulled a length out from the bottom of the assembly as you will see in the picture. There are small metal clips that grasp the edge of the aluminium surround and they have succumbed to the elements (salt spray, rain and time) and have rusted to only residue. I can obtain new seal material so will do the job myself but need a question answered vis, Is the aluminium surround extrusion held only by the screws under the plastic trim, or is there an internal flange with screws securing it inside. I have tried (not too hard) to lever the extrusion away from the wall but there is sealant behind it and I am just unsure if this is causing the thing to hang on, or is it something else?

Bob, phone the nearest Jayco dealer. Most of them are very happy to offer advice and help. If all else fails, ring the factory on Vic, they must have the specs and answers. Good luck with it.

Thanks Deborah, and hello Dot, I had contemplated that, and it still may come to that but my experience with the local mob hasn't been all that good. Anyway I feel a big foolish because I didn't properly look at the job before getting on here. A more detailed examination reveals that the aluminium extrusion is also used for the trim of the slide-out box itself. It is just secured another way around. Check out the photo. So in answer to myself, yes there is a flange and it is probably secured where you cannot access the screws. I figure if I dismount the box from the slide assembly inside the van, I should be able to lift the box a little and that will give me finger room. Likewise I should be able to slide the box a little right and left to give space at the sides. Not sure about the top. Need to wait until the weather improves and the van is back at home.

Bob, I can thoroughly recommend Jayco Bairnsdale, amazing people could not do enough for us and only accepted a token payment for long hours of work. Nice place to plan your next holiday?????
