Fitted a new 240 gas 20 ltr hot water system today . Gosh it's nice to have a shower were your not chasing hot or cold water .ought I was doing a good thing putting in a instant gas system . I'd only recommend them to enemy. Now I can put the shower head water saver and the inline water saver back on just annoyed I thought I was doing the rite thing . It took 30 mins and use about 13 % to heat it up from empty . Got a love sun power.

I am confused is it gas or is it electric, you are calling it a 240 gas hot water system?

Re: Happy hot water
We have a Truma 14l gas hot water system, works well, but we choose to use it as an instant, in that we found the cost of using it as a storage system, ie leaving it turned on constantly and reheating the water when not needed is pointless, and uses a fair amount of gas, we found it many times more economical to heat the kettle to do the dishes and turn the hot water on prior to showers, if needed. working this way we have extended the life of a 9kg gas bottle from 4 weeks to over 2 months.
If camped near water we fill up the solar hot water bags hang them up in the shower, and use them, instead of the gas. since doing this we haven't had to fill the gas so I don't know what the gas usage is. (haven't done much travelling in the past couple of years)

Life is a trip, to be enjoyed!

Re: Happy hot water
Welcome to the forum Itvic. the hot water system would be dual gas or electric element heating. Sometimes people swap out the 240vac element for a 24v 600w element and power it direct from the solar panels using the solar regulator to decide when to turn the element on, but with a bypass switch to force heat the water from the battery is they are low on gas. If on mains the battery charger would bring the battery voltage high enough for the solar regulator to turn the heater element on so then you would need to be careful not to get the water so hot it boiled. Others have larger inverters that run near full time so simply switching the hot water on when needed is easiestltvic wrote:I am confused is it gas or is it electric, you are calling it a 240 gas hot water system?

Funny that. We find a gas bottle good for about 2 months with the hws on...gas that is...Wilbor wrote:if I suggested we go back to using solar hot water bags I think I would end up living in a tent, by myself

Sitting at the Bundy rally at the moment, doing what T1 has suggested above, although in a bigger way. Flick a switch when batteries are full and 2000 watts flows through 3 pairs of 24 and 12 v elements, all on a timer. Usually flick it on when we are on the way out, one hour later have 50 ltrs of 45 - 50 deg water, works a treat and does not waste the sun. Also have a 240 v element in there for when there is no sun.
