Hello from the cyclone centre of Queensland

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Hello from the cyclone centre of Queensland

Post by GregnDee »

Hi guys
As you know, we are static at the moment, caretaking an 86 house residential housing estate in BOWEN.
Until recently, few people had heard of Bowen, but now I think they do. We've had an interesting Tim,e as not only have we had to make sure we were safe, but we also had to make sure that tenants knew what to do, and had moved potential missiles inside. We took all the precautions possible, including backing the cars up to the garage door to make sure it didn't buckle.
We have a generator, and we lent a small generator to a single my next door who has a 12 week old, a 3 yo and a 6 yo. We stocks up, and I did some cooking so we didn't need to do much at least for today.
Well, it was a long wait, and then midday boy it hit us. Sounded and felt like a freight train running through our living area. The wind wa s ferocious. The rain....well horizontal at times, whistling and screaming.
There's been a lot of damage south of us, and Bowen had its fair share.....but Airlie Beach really copped it. We have friends in Airlie who, lost their fence within half an hour. We lost our fence a short while ago.
We had southerly winds at first, and now we have northerly winds. We are not out of the woods yet, but we'll be very glad when it's all over. We are lucky.....we have no electricity, but our generator is keeping the fridge and freezer going, the Internet still works, and Gregs got the telly going. We still have water, too. And Greg has stocked up with beer.
So it's still a waiting game, but by tomorrow we'll have a better idea of what cleanup is needed.
Oh and we have a 100 yo Queenslander house in Collinsville, and did at one point think maybe I should go there, it's 90 kms inland, take the dogs and be safe there. Glad I didn't, because Collinsville has copped it too, and locals have lost roofs etc, power lines down...and with the flooding I'd've been stuck there for I don't k ow how long.

Ok, lots of love to everyone that knows us. Hoping that maybe a few of you will venture this far north this year...

Cheers
Dee ( and Greg)

Good to hear from you & Greg, Dee. Glad you are safe & well.
Certainly was a very wide, big system but on the TV it didn't seem as vicious as a few of the ones they've had up in Qld.
Wendy's daughter is now living in Nebo and is just started copping the wind and rain now.
I think her coalmine will be closed for a day or two!! She was due to start nights on Wednesday.
Greg should be OK........... with his XXXX beer?

Remember the day we happened to meet in Collinsville when you were settling on the house, shared lunch in the pub ?
Who would have thought an out of control female might demolish it ?
Hope it is all good for you and the rest of the town.
Cheers

Greg & Dee are all ok, no power or water but ph etc is back on. Their house at Collinsville has suffered a small amount of damage but not too bad.
