Ah Queensland, perfect one day, poop the next

Post by Busman »

Sitting here looking out the window. VP is in the shed, all loaded up with nowhere to go, at least nowhere that we want to be driving to at the moment.
Was going to leave today but after looking at the forecast decided to put it off for a day, as the predictions were for Friday to be all clear.
Latest is that Brissie business are asked to close, schools shut, don't go out if you don't need to.
Updated forecast is for 500 mm of rain with the worst this afternoon, not looking forward to that.
This system is now so big I doubt the coast road will be possible, even if we had planned to go that way
We still have plenty of time to get to STC so are happy to wait it out, but this is eerily similar to '74 when an ex cyclone turned into a rain depression that was supposed to flick off pretty smartly, but didn't, sat here and dumped for a week. lets hope that does not happen.

Just emptied the range gauge. 175mm in the past 24hrs at my place. Some on the GC have had far more. Quite a few towns further south into NSW have evacuation orders in place at 4.30pm today.

Well it's all gone now, but there was so much poop we will sit it out for another day or so we think. Was worst south (GC) and north (SC) of us but pretty hectic here so glad we were not in either place.
Bet tomorrow is blue and sunny !

It is blue and sort of sunny this morning. It looks like the hard part will be getting over the range today. There are quite a lot of road closures due to flooding. And we can't go south at the moment because of even more flooding around the Tweed and further south. We are lucky that we are still home and dry. There are lots of towns and villages in northern NSW that are watching the water level come up way too far.

Yep trying to find out if we can get to Cunninghams Gap, once up there I think no problems but with lots or problems still around bit reticent to push off. Departure at the moment is 7:00 am tomorrow.
