18v rechargeable tool battery

Post by Lance »

I want to resurrect an under used 18v Ni-Cd battery from my drill kit.
Can it be done ?
Is there a method to 'jolt' a battery back to life ?

I've got 3 of these batteries and I don't particularly want to spend $70 on a replacement battery pack.
Another alternative of course is to McIvor it back to 12v with cable connection direct to the tool contact, but I'd prefer to use the actual pack if possible.

I have 1 Makita like that too, I googled it and found it's usually the circuit board inside the battery casing.
I can get a new one quite cheap here http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/18V-Makita-D ... 1438.l2649
I haven't done it yet, but i do intend to give it a go.

Cheers,
Bernie B

No circuit board in these packs Bernie, just 15 x Ni- Cd 1.2v SC 1300mAh cells

I'm in Melbourne Alan, Wantirna area.
Hey, I just noticed you're just up the road :)

I'll go feed the dog, light the firedrum then give you a call, probably an hour or so if that suits.
I might need to handball the phone to Anne 'cos my hearing is crap on the phone.

Nah, all good.
I caught up with Alan this arvo and had a bit of a chat in his little shed.
He has kindly offered to have a play with the battery packs to see if there is any potential left in'em.
Thanks Alan ;)
