Crazing of Solar Panels

Post by Newcastle George »

Has anyone experienced crazing of their panels as shown below which is occuring on two of my four panels? There is no cracking of the glass. What effect will it have on the output?

George the trouble is getting them replaced. Even though it's faulty made they hide behind the ability to produce X% of power.
I have 10 black & orange ones. Where yours are white, mine are almost red/orange.
Are they Low Energy bought ones? http://www.lowenergydevelopments.com.au/
I've seen that many ask a similar question to you ..............
Do you have a clamp meter to test one by one?
Any chance you have a photo of the label underneath them? I made sure I got a picture before I installed them.

Yes Bruce, Low Energy supplied, I do have a clamp meter but may be difficult to disconnect to test the current, I can get a photo of the labels with a little difficulty. The colour of the crazing varies.

You won't need to disconnect the panels to test with a clamp meter George.
If you can get to the red positive wire on each one & test you should see very similar amps/watts on each one. Best if you have your battery down a bit & panels in full sun. (not some in the shade of course!)

Maybe we should stay away fron TN Solar George? Many aren't overly happy with that brand.

At 1pm in full sun, from the 4 x 24V 250w ( connected in parallel) panels as per the spec, I was receiving 32.2 amps as shown by my Plasmatronics PL60.
I was unable to get a clampmeter around the cables from the individual panels.
