Tyre Pressure
We just replaced our tyres on our Chevy Silverado 2500 with Falken All Terrain 185 x 18R.
The truck returned with 65 psi.
Our previous tyres (Michellin 170 X 18R) were always run at 45 psi.

Opinions please ...

Side wall construction is the critical thing with tyre pressure. Too soft and the sidewalls tear themselves to bits along with the outer edges of the tyres, too hard wears the centre of the tyres more than the outer edges, gives a harsher ride and a slight loss of traction but this is really only in soft ground. It would require a lot of over inflation to cause a serious loss of foot print that would effect black top traction and the likely effect would be case destruction because the flat tread area is trying to become round yet flattened again when it comes into contact with the road.
Tyre construction methods used these days is so different to construction in the past that the old ply rating to pressure no longer applies, so look to the tyre manufacturers web site for guidance and the vehicle manufacturers web site for likely axle loads, and that will give you a range to experiment with to determine what works best.
Tyre pressure monitors work well for this too, under inflated results in rapid temperature rise and therefore pressure increase, so at least you will know when you are torturing them.

The fitters put what they like. I always specify what I want. Usually manufacturer reccomendations then tweak from there.
