capacitor batteries are almost here

Post by native pepper »

My late mate kept telling me graphene would bring a quantum leap to energy storage, when combined with capacitors and he also said capacitors would take over energy storage. Most supposed experts laughed at him, but I didn't and as he explained it to me, thought he was on the right track, Now it seems they are close to getting it right and a company called Arvio’s, is going to produce them soon they say. This new capacitor energy storage system, uses materials that are recyclable and environmentally friendly, composed of carbon/graphene particles wrapped in paper encased in aluminium.

We expect our lifepo4 systems to last about 15 years with about 5000 cycles, these capacitor systems are estimated to provide around 1 million cycles with a claim of a lifespan of over 2000 years, can be used with single or three phase systems.

ARENA, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency has finally established a battery testing facility. Hopefully it will give us unbiased reports of energy storage systems.

It's coming at a good time, my almost 12year old 120ah lifepo4 portable pack for the first time, got way out of whack when charging the other day and even the equaliser wasn't handling it properly, So put a load on it and it balanced up well.

To me this is a sign it may be starting to deteriorate, but could be just anomaly in the charging process. Only time will tell and if the pack is going down hill, my house pack may be getting close to the same situation. So the introduction of these capacitors and the low price they will be, will be a good replacement for them. Already decided to not buy any more lifepo4 until we see how this development ends up, especially as capacitors take away many of the disadvantages with lithium and LA storage.

Who knows, may take a few years to get it together in production, rather than experimental at the moment. Solar panels are essential no matter what storage system you use, If I didn't already have lifepo4 and was in the market for storage, would still buy them unless something like these capacitors was around and at the price they claim.

Even of this model doesn't work for them, the concept has huge potential. One day we may have endless energy from the atmosphere and never need storage.

How many of these systems have popped up in the past, put out their hand for lots of investor money and promptly vanished?

I believe this sort of crap when they say we are IN commercial production, not it looks good and we might be able to do some commercial production in the future.

Lets see if this one is any different.

Seems those that know their stuff say these are a furphy. Have a read here http://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php ... 085dc4a9aa These guys work full time with the cutting edge of battery technology and it didn't take them very long to see that what was claimed was not what was actually being offered.
Wishful thinking will often cloud clear judgement, check out the last post on the AEVA forum thread, size and cost says it is just too good to be true
