Vietnam Veterans Day - August 18th

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Vietnam Veterans Day - August 18th

A controversial time in our history, but those men and women involved on the ground did what they had to do.

Many at home did not understand that.

Sorry but I wonder why we keep this wound open ?
Been there, done that, had to sort it all out by myself, after the 700 stitches on my own bod.
Get over it !

I'll tell you one day when we meet face to face William.
It's more about the ones left behind than those the suffered or died at the 'time'.

Get over it !
'tanks" here ---Busman,

With over 700 sutures to your body it is very obvious [to me] that you did not sort "it" all out by yourself, but I think that you are only refering to the after effects of the condition/injury----credit to you in gaining that level of self control mate.
There are many ex-service who were unable to make the adjustment to normality, without the help and assistance of others, both professional services and their service mates.
Many of the blokes were helped to regain an acceptable level of normality with the comradeship and support of their mates and E.S.O's---those who did not carry and profess the attitude of "GET OVER IT"' !!!

Rather than Keep the wound open, their contribution is to [help reach closeure and repair the wound] and offer support for those who have remaining psych/mental troubles --partly through what they experienced, and also the non-recognition of what was achieved on 18th August.

Busman; Were you a Grunt or a BlackHat.?? or which Corps did you serve in ??

By the level of 700 stitches would indicate a major injury so I take it that you may have been injured by a UED.

During my RAAC service, I was a Sgt-in-charge of a Casualty Clearing Station, (RAAMC Trained), however I did not go on "Tour" due to my other postings. However, I still observe 18th August, and all the implications of that Action and loss of those not only KIA but also those who were involved in the action, which is what I honour by observing the date for special recognition---or as you post ---KEEP THE WOUND OPEN.
Keith.
I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.
