Okay troops, this vehicle has become available by a fellow resident here at RVHB. It is 4x4 Hino Coaster Motorhome conversion. It’s listed on Gumtree but I can’t copy the link. We are very interested as we are thinking of moving from the caravan to a 4x4 motorhome and this ticks most of the boxes.
Can anyone be bothered to do the search as I can’t work out how to copy the link?

Lesley, That is my dream vehicle. If I could have found something like that before we bought the Winny I would have certainly been interested. As you would know from your travels, you can take a Coaster anywhere. They just rust a bit eventually. The Hino running gear is well engineered. And so long as you like the fit-out what else is there to consider. Maybe just negotiate the price down a bit. good luck.

Lesley we had a big old Bedford as our first unit & then got a Nissan Civilian.
Talk about 'living close'!!!
Honestly I suggest you borrow one for a weekend to see for yourself.
A couple of feet narrower makes a VERY big difference.
Maybe OK for a couple of newly weds but for old plumpish folks with stiff knees & backs it wasn't a lot of fun!

Import and you can't get parts. Can't get manuals, can't get electronic buts.....
Visit your local Hino dealer and ask him if he can help you.

Can't find much information on it Lesley, the model ID: BB58 doesn't seem to come up with much info at all or even identify the particular model to get specs, never a good sign. Many of the vehicle parts can be sourced via different sites that can cross over known part numbers to model listed part numbers, but that can't happen if the model does not have a parts listing at all.
Then comes the auto transmission, without a listing it is a complete unknown and getting parts for Japanese domestic market automatic transmission is virtually impossible because no spares were ever put into a store, they simply junked the dead transmission and fitted a new one.
With just about all Japanese domestic market stuff there is very little info regarding technical manuals because if something serious happened to any major mechanical component ether a complete new unit was installed or the whole vehicle was junked. Once the vehicle was no longer within serviceable age the vehicle was junked along with any spares stock. If an exporter didn't grab the whole lot it was scrap and reprocessed into making something else via the material recycling industry.
So, a 15yr old Japanese domestic market rare unit that was never exported to Aust or else where .... certainly not a particularly desirable item

NZ would be the most likely place for any info at all .... if at all.
Many 2nd hand buses were not able to be imported into Australia but could be into NZ. Once there they could then enter Aus OK.......... beats me but I knew a chap who owned several school bus runs around Goondiwindi & he got all his from NZ at half the price of what was avail here.

Thanks for your replies guys. Certainly food for thought especially as both of us are mechanically “challenged”. Apparently there are only 12 of these vehicles in the country. Perhaps we know why now.
Bruce, I don’t think internal space would be an issue for us. Our caravan is only 17’9” long and 6’8 1/2” wide and runs in the Landcruiser tracks making it a great off-roader. Erich has been inside the MH and didn’t think it was more cramped than our van. We hired a Merc Sprinter based MH in Canada last year which was quite snug but not an ideal layout. Hated the sliding door and the rear barn doors.
Anyway, it’s probably all a bit of a pipe dream but interesting to consider things we had no clue about. We really would like a 4WD Motorhome though. We saw a couple of great ones at the last Brisbane caravan show but they came with eye-watering prices.
