Vik have a look at the wonderful machine that Margaret uses in Mannum?
Then just grab a portable WiFi 4g unit.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Unlocked-4G ... Swnklaxf87
You can even plug an antenna into it if you wanted to.
Get an unlocked one & take a cheap Optus SIM as well as your (ripoff) Telstra one.
Use the Oppy one until you can't get reception (not often!) & pop your Telly one in & try it.
I've been know to take the portable unit & put it up on the top deck to use it....
The Oppy plan I have is unlimited calls, txt's, MSM's & 55gig of data for $44 a month,
Only need a $10 Telly one for emergency use? (wasted most times)

Add a yagi aerial to the TV wind up antenna and you should be able to get Optus just about any where you can get Telstra. If you go satellite for the tv later on you can ditch the TV aerial head altogether and just have the wind up yagi that you can rotate to get the reception from the nearest tower.
Quite a few at Stone The Crows had collapsible tuna poles with their dongle in a plastic bag and communicated to their 'puter via WiFi. Needed to come down every 4 days or so to recharge, but I'm sure a long USB lead could be added to sort that problem out and maybe speed up the down load/up load speed.
If you have heaps of money left after the sale of the house and we have finished fleecing your bank account ;) , then you might decide to pay the big bucks and go Telstra, but you will probably still need to go through the same thing to get Telstra reception in a lot of places.

We ditched Telstra for Optus because of Telstra's atrocious "customer relations" attitude when we had a data theft problem, and reception problems.
("You must be streaming video, because you have definitely used the data." On ONE bar of 3G reception?? Besides, I don't know how to hook into video streaming... and don't particularly want to.)
However, our recent foray into Outback Queensland showed us that, when it comes to remote travel, we're forced to use Telstra.
So before our next trip, we'll be buying a small-capacity Telstra Pre-Paid SIM...

Regarding the iPlod:
That price is about right.
Our 9YO laptop is now listed in Apple's maintenance database as 'OBSOLETE'
We're planning to go iPlod shortly.
I priced the 12" iPod Pro with WiFi, 4G SIM and built-in keyboard/cover: $1295.00! :o
I think the 10" iPad might come as a Pro, with a keyboard/cover, but it's almost as pricey at just under $1100 with SIM, but you can get a bluetooth keyboard cover from another manufacturer for it.
128GB WiFi-only with aftermarket keyboard/cover: $900 or a coupla dollars under (all up), from memory. That's what our local Apple agent recommended.
Also suggested we use our phone as a Mobile Hotspot to hook into the interweb. This saves having to add another SIM data plan (more $$$) to your phone contract, too. Cheaper to just nudge your data allowance up to the next level if needed... the way we use data, we don't.
Regards & God bless,
Ray
