Help needed about TV

Post by Dot »

Linsar 65" 4K UHD HDR SMART TV
Looking for a new TV and this is on the good guys but we have no idea what all those letters stand for??? $595. HELP Have no idea of what these things mean.

What type of resolution would you like? HD Ready, Full HD or Ultra HD?
What type of TV would you like? LED, LCD or Plasma?
What size TV best suits your home?
What level of energy efficiency would you like?
Do you have a particular brand or product type in mind?
Are there any key technologies or special features you want

UHD ultra high definition. Which means you get amazing picture quality and clarity, watching sport in uhd is so much better than HD, high definition

HDR High dynamic range, gives you a brighter sharper picture. But to get that you need to be looking at special HDR content, does nothing to UHD or HD content

SMART means it can be connected to the internet, keeps an eye on you and feeds you advertising according to your internet preferences, they collect the data from what you watch and where you visit.

I have a samsung 65inch and have never connected it to the internet. Connect it to my computer and use that for watching youtube movies and other video stuff, especially music clips.

UHD is pretty much standard now, don't go below that.

LED is the best and the most efficient by a long way. Plasma is last century as is LCD.
Hope that doesn't confuse you, but had to learn all that stuff when buying mine last year.

If you can pick up a demo samsung 65inch, you can get them for half price and you get a full warranty. Samsung are the best, LG is close behind and the rest come behind. You need to look at the tv from every angle and the difference in colour saturation, pixels and clarity from different angles. Check a few reviews on the net for the ones you are looking at, you can get a good idea of what is around and what's good and bad about them.

We had a 56? inch and tossed it to go smaller. 42 inch.

The smaller screen is so much easier to watch.

As you've always done, Dot, go big. There is a reason why they make big TVs. Full HD at least. Smart TV - important. You won't get Plasma now. It will be LED but price will determine which - all OK. Japanese or other - Japanese is generally better, however, two 'other', which you can buy for the price of one Japanese, will probably outlast the Japanese. Go big, Dot. If you don't, the next time you visit someone who has a big one, you will wish you had a big one. Life is like that!

I have a mate who buys the latest and biggest TV from Aldi every couple of years when the current one starts to get weird colours in the corners, remote starts to play up or it just dies.
While each new one is a usually a big improvement on the outgoing one, they are all very slow to respond to the remote and slow to start up even from standby compared to our now 10 year old LG LED TV.
The lack of input and outputs is also evident when we try to connect another "thing" to it, I do all his techy stuff and as he is/was completely technologically defunct as far as computer and electronics go. Has improved since getting a basic smart phone and wonder of wonders his first debit card at the age of 72!

Like people, there is no TV standard which describes what smart is.

"He's a smart person" "that's a smart TV."
