Winnebago ABS fault

Post by supersparky »

While we were touring about earlier this year, pre Covid, the ABS warning light on the dash came on then went off again after a short time. We checked fluid levels etc and could find no reason why it would come on. It came on and stayed on shortly before we got home. I rang our service mechanic who has had years of experience with Isuzu's and he suggested that it would probably be the result of a faulty sensor. Now that we are home and all my little mods are finished I have had the opportunity to take it to the dealer to find out the cause of the fault. Mr Isuzu tells me that it is a faulty ABS module that needs replacing with a starting price of $2800. Then whatever else they find is on top of that. It took a while to get over the shock of that. I am off to my mechanic this morning to see what he can say about that.

A bit of tape over the light works...less than $2800 Dave :D
We have had the abs and skid thing plus the warning light flashing in the VW for over a year now RACQ couldn't with their gear reprogram it to go off,and cant afford VW to do it .
It is the sensor on one of the back wheels (counts revolutions) or some thing.
We just ignore it.
Remember when none of this stuff was invented

Dave,

check the tyre pressures and diameters etc.

remember, the abs unit is measuring the difference between the little pulses from the toothed ring on each wheel.

I'd be finding the connector on each, separating and spraying with contact cleaner.

Jon, the fault shows as an ECU module failure. It is a solid fault not an intermittent one similar to Bernies. But I will be doing the separate and clean thing in the morning. My biggest problem is having zero knowledge of ABS. I will ask Mr Google as well.

Ok,

I had an ABS module fail on my VT Commodore. Was a Bosch unit; cost about $500 to replace.

Can you get the part numbers? (maybe ask the dealer for a formal quote) I'm sure it will be cheaper overseas.

Bruce, the dealer report hopefully is attached. Hopefully you can read it ok.

They told me it was the ECU for the ABS. Whatever it is, the vehicle still seems to function the same as always. Just a dash light that won't go away. Youtube shows an electronic module of some description on top of the ABS block. If I could initiate a reset and make the light go off then I would be a happy camper, but the clips on youtube aren't giving me much to look forward to. We will see what's happens after i have a bit of a play tomorrow.

Mine was the same, the ECU unit that bolted to the ABS hydraulic part died.

Wreckers come to mind.

Bruce, I haven't yet. I'm still trying to find the correct way to reset the ECU. It seems that the ABS module was an issue with that model Isuzu, according to a neighbour that worked on them in the UK.

While I have been doing a bit of research, Mr Google led me to this site. https://www.pdfmanual4trucks.com/isuzu/
It has every manual that I need. Free to download. Just find and click on your vehicle type and follow the links.
Unfortunately it hasn't helped me fix my problem, but is a wealth of information.
Edit: this site covers just about every vehicle make going around.

I have done all the tests and checks that I can find. Did the battery off reset thing as well. Plenty of info on youtube and Google once you ask the right questions. So far, not good though. I have looked at getting an OBD2 thing, but it needs to be a 24v compatible unit which aren't cheap. When I find the right one that will suit all our vehicles I will be buying one. That site in the post above has the wiring diag with all the connector pins so it is was simple after I found the plug.
For reference the ABS control is on a crossmember above the tailshaft just forward of the diff. The OBD2 port is in the loom near the rhs door pillar. I dont think the fault code can be cleared until the fault is removed.
