Hi Eddy!
Could be several things they are 'after'.
Sometimes it could be some 'enemy' of the website that wants to bring down the website for revenge. There are hundreds of Bots that scan all websites simply to index the content. So if someone looks up, say, "toilet problems" in Google, it will respond with a link to Terry's toilet problems along with hundreds of others. So in that case it would be the Google Bot doing the scanning.
Nearly all Bots respect websites and limit how many pages it'll index at a time and for how long. (maybe 100 pages a day)
These are friendly Bots.
I think I've blocked this particular mungrel now.

Only Bot I know of are Bot flies that hang around annoying horses. Thanks Bruce x

Sometimes I think those bots work my phones, mobile will ring with an unrecognised caller, I let it ring out, then almost immediately the landline will start, let it ring out

Eddy most Gov departments will show up as silent numbers.
I recently had a lot of contact with the Royal Adelaide Hospital & they initially asked me to answer ALL silent number calls as their number is silent. Also a little while ago I had cause to have discussions with the Coroner's Dept & all of their calls are silent.
I usually answer with a silly question like "OK, who are you & what do you want?"

Sometimes I’ll answer an unidentified caller — or a call from “Australia” — with, “Si” or “Prego”, and if they start talking I continue babbling on in a pseudo language until they hang up.
