Inverter replacement

Post by TigerMK1 »

I had a name brand MSW inverter 2000W forsome years however with the big wet a few weeks ago it failed. Now when I changed to a 240V domestic fridge and I have a LCD TV and sat box etc, I bought a 1000W PSW unit off ebay. It gave me some trouble that Terry has been very helpful in tweaking it to work correctly. I have not managed to get it so I was happy that it would be reliable 24/7. I checked the retail sites nearby and did not want to pay $450-$650 for one.
So I bought this one
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181074777119 ... 1497.l2649

It arrived today and is working. The fridge has turned off and on, I turned on the micrwave and boiled a cup of water, all good. It also has a 0 .4A standby

Was it the pretty girl so seductively holding the inverter that sold you on that unit Steven ;) I wasn't game to risk it when they were doing silly stuff like that to sell an inverter so I bought one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/280852806375 ... 1439.l2649 the standby current is a lot higher though, still waiting for it to arrive so I can fit it up in the Mazda.
Does you fridge drop back far enough to allow the standby mode to kick in? mine has a door seal heater and a cyclic defrost running all the time so it draws just enough to stop the inverters from dropping into stand by mode  i could disconnect it by I've got plenty of battery capacity to spare so I haven't worried about it.

Will have the answer tomorrow, we are having another super heavy rain period at the moment. I have not heard any beeps and about this time the F&P Fridge goes into the defrost period. If the rain slows will go and check it again. I get the feeling that the Microwave pulled 85A while running and the inverter was ok it should be OK with the fridge compressor. Didn't even get warm (not like the 1000W unit.) And no, the lovley lass holding the thing, (oops) did not convince me, it was checking the offerings at other places that had a very big price and all most probably were assembled in the PRC. Also, the blurb for this inverter points out they use genuine brand name components and one of those computer arms makes the board.

Also checked the site you mentioned, what put me off the case looks the same as the one that has given me all the grief.

Can't understand why you had so much grief with it, I only had to to tweak mine up because I was powering an 1180w coffee percolator with it  It has been powering either the 2 x 250ltr Fisher & Paykels or the 500 ltr Fisher & Paykel for 2 yrs or more without missing a beat, it even plods on screaming for mercy long after the Jay Car inverter has low voltage shut down. Maybe you just got a Friday unit.

Maybe I did, this is the second one, I returned the 1st doing the same, red led, no output. The replacement the same. Tweaked the output and it worked for about 5 hours, went on shore power for 12 hours, went back on inverter and it pooped its self. I will adjust the low voltage pot and see what I get. Meanwhile, even if it behaves itself, I have a nice unit carrused by a asian lady thats putting out all I need (waiting on dot)
