You could probably buy a second hand tilta and pay rego for ten years or more, before you would break even on what you'd spend on the 'hitch n go' ,and the other mods. And you can back it up when you get geographically embarrassed.T1 Terry wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 10:06 amI was thinking about fitting free wheeling hubs and the rear tailshaft disconnect set up, then flat towing it ..... which do you think would be the better option, the titla trailer does lend itself to being used with the other vehicles in the fleetsupersparky wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 2:01 amAs an owner of a little Jimny, I can seriously recommend that any thought of 'EVing' Jim, be discontinued immediately. They lack a certain amount of stability.![]()
The current Jimny model would be a far more suitable project as they are a have a longer wheelbase and a wider track.
Just buy a Tilta trailer and get Jim back on the road and let him follow a big Winnie around. He already has years of experience doing that.![]()

But it does add a parking spot requirement when at a caravan park or showground .... plus yet another rego

If that pipe is the same size as the ones in the top of a Cleveland or Windsor water pump, they were available as a part at your local Ford dealer.

Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
The pipe is roughly 1mtr long snake 18mm diam that comes out the back of the block, under the inlet manifold and behind where the water pump bolts onto the front.
Heading to Adelaide to get the new Victron inverter and 250/100 mppt solar controller and collect the repairable write off MG4 from the same area, cause that is where the car carriers was unloading and the MG is up front, the others don't go and all being delivered to a 4 X 4 wreckers.
I'll check out the tilt trailer market options round this way to get a feel for prices. I can cart the MG4 on that as well and have the 51kwh battery back up (4,250Ah @ 12v) via the V2L cable into the Victron inverter, as well as a storage device for any excess solar during the day ...... not likely to be a problem at Taggerty eh

Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
T1,
Our solution to the parking problem was to unload Jim and park the Tilta-Trailer (“Titla trailer” shows where your mind is!
) ACROSS the site, either at front or back, and Jim alongside just outside the awning (space permitting) otherwise across the front of Girt.
SIMPLES!!
… and yes, we used the trailer to carry the other car (‘cars’ plural in your case) when needed, as well as being handy when buying long timber…
ps. Trailer rego in Victoria is under $75pa, regardless of trailer size or type: 7ft to 30ft+!
Under 6x4ft is free!

Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
Got the pipe out, two small holes on the outside of a bend ... the gentleman who is welding up the aluminium 1" pipe into the air intake joiner tube, wil dab a bit of bronze into the holes ..... it only takes a few days to tear it apart again and put it bac together if it failsT1 Terry wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 12:58 pm Found the leak under the inlet manifold, the cooling system cleaner has done a ice job o opening up the hole in the steel pipe so it will be easier to locate when I finally get it outIf it wasn't for the fact the LPG converter and the heater requires that feed into the back of the water pump, I'd delete it as the yanks like to put it ..... Maybe I can form up a piece of aluminium pipe to replace the steel one ....
I'll see how long it will take to get a replacement from the states to see if it's a project worth the effort .....

… or you could slot it into Jim.
His acceleration always was “leisurely”!

Might have to move the driver’s seat back a foot or two, though…
In the 1960s I did see a V8 BMC Mini at a drag meet.
Driver’s seat was where the back seat should be.
Driveshaft to the rear wheels was 12” long, and the rear slicks were as tall as the Mini’s roof.
Acceleration was unbelievable!
Food for thought, Terry?

Just trying to picture this engine and transmission perched over a drivetrain with a wheel on each corner and a Jimny body on top.Greynomad wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 10:02 pm … or you could slot it into Jim.

The engine is 0.65mtrs wide x 0.8mtrs long, so it would sort of fit in the engine bay, but it's over a mtr tall, so you wouldn't be able to see where you were going ...... although the clouds of smoke off the tyres would have the same affect

Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
Had an email from the battery forwarding agents, finally have the paperwork sorted (I hope anyway) and they should get here by 1 Dec .... now to find out what the story is with the inverter.
Just picked up my two pipe welding jobs, very nice job on both, now to start the reassembly .... again, I should be good at this soon, had enough practice
Then the job of distilling the water begins, ready to mix with the coolant concentrate

Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
Terry,
You just ran an acid bath though the engine. Why bother distilling? There will be more chemicals left in from the bath than what is in the tap water.
Oh yeah, SA water. Still, can't be that bad.
