Big worldwide trip "bon voyage!)

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Ajaccio Corsica October 13

A very productive sea cruise, as I have now discovered where Pat Cash is from.

And the graffiti is pretty. Looks like big Arnie has been here too.

They speak Italian, but the street names are French???

Livorno (Florence) Lucca October 14

Apart from Marseilles where we woke to a single digit temperature, this was the only other off day where we had rain in Pisa - next stop. There was another day in Italy where it was just cold and overcast, but not freezing. Thankfully we were the only ones on the bus sipping on our beer while waiting to return to the ship while watching all the others trudge back in the rain – more later.

This cities claim to fame is that it boast that it is the only city never to be attacked with complete wall of fortification still intact.

See the place that ends in a cul-de-sac...?

I've taken a shot back from the top of the wall.

Did you see the tower in the first shot? Here it is from within the city.

Much of the tour involved yet another inside tour of a church and like you (maybe), I'm done with it for now. Here is the outside and...

... note the ornate columns.
The pink ones must be fragile, as they've strapped them up with duct tape. Lol

No wonder Europe is broke; the maintenance bill on the tourist attractions must be massive.

Peak hour in the town square.

You have to hand it to them though, they have found a productive use for idle bicycles. Lol

I found this bird staring at the place across the square...

However, I thought it strange as she had no hip pocket to store the wallet in.

Livorno (Pisa) Italy October 14

Ok, picking up where we left off from Lucca we continued on to Pisa where it earned the distinction of being the only place it rained the whole time we were away.

Remember I mentioned that at the end of this tour, "...we were the only ones on the bus sipping on our beer while waiting to return to the ship while watching all the others trudge back in the rain"? Bar Emilio was our tour guides start and end anchor point.
DSC_9559.jpg
We were inside using the facilities and grabbing a beer and got detached from our group. When we came back outside the cry went up; "Oh no, they're gone" and I could not see any familiar faces either. So we ran all the way back (and it was a good way too) which is never a good look for old folks, but did give us the edge in that we beat the down poor that commenced after we were in the bus.

That large domed structure in the foreground had something to do with the twelve apostles and we were given a special performance regarding it's acoustic qualities. Note the tower at the very back.

The curator sang out and there was an echo response.

Note the detail.

No doubt about it, they do this in a big way. Again note the tower of Pisa.

Inside the church, this shape caught my eye.

More ornament inside.

Don't really know what this was;

...but look at the intricacy.

It's truly hard to believe this is still standing and I can't imagine walking around it - especially at the top!...
DSC_9673.JPG
..and to get a perspective on just how much it leans:
DSC_9669.JPG
...somehow they underpinned the base without it being obvious. It's claimed that it could have been up-righted, but at the obvious loss of a tourist attraction.
