An interesting thing today in Franklin at the Wooden Boat Centre. Pay your money and you will be provided with the timber (Huon Pine, King Billy Pine and Celery Top Pine) and you will be taught how to make the boat - yourself. A small Huon Pine sail boat (12 foot) will take about 7 weeks and about $13,000 to make - plus your accommodation and living expenses for the time you are in Franklin. This is a photo of a man doing just that right now:

Now one for the lithium battery aficionardos. The following photo is the beginnings of the hull for a lithium battery powered speedboat. Made from celery top pine known for its light weight, hardness and durability. The motor will be powered by 200kg of lithium batteries. I've no idea but, no doubt, some will know what sort of capability the boat will have.

Found this little guy in Mountain River, Huonville, a river that forms one boundary of the Huon Valley Caravan Park. The Huon River forms one other boundary. He's one of the Parks many fauna residents.

Wow, you saw the photo of Platypus Bill. If your very, very quiet and sneak carefully down the river a few metres you might see a related species - Platypus Ball.
