I'm not a big believer of bringing up things on forums relating to possible breaches of rulings.
I've seen it a few times on caravaners forum (CF) where immediately after a discussion, a blitz on those topics results.
Weights, brakes, balljoints, etc.
This topic was simply a request for help to get an awning from Rocky to Victoria................

Re: awning transport
Bruce, I don't know that this is getting off track, as Baggie has said, it would make him technically overwidth......
My concern is, as Jon's, NSW, where they seem to be a bit over the top.
With the gear we saw down the Newell there is no tape measure to hold anymore, it seemed to be some sort of laser measuring machine, didn't see it in action, just set up waiting for the next victim. I know Gary Johnson had a 150mm handle sticking out from his centre door, they just told him to fix it and bring it back, but it seems it has gotten a lot tighter in that state since then (several years ago)

Re: awning transport
I'll expect a letter from Bruce
They have had a laser width and height checker in operation on the F? between Sydney and Newcastle for the past ten years. I have been through that weighbridge and measuring device many times. I think the side mirrors would be detected but they are legally overwidth. I would e more concerned about an over zealous inspector on a random vehicle check.

Re: awning transport
I guess he will be busy letter writing, might not notice this one..........
Why the rego in so many different states Jon, if you don't mind me asking ?
I guess you are right, an over zealous guy might be a pain, but then he might only have a measure tape............
Only time I have been to Sydney I just ignored the inspection stations, apart from Mt White both ways, but was sent back to the highway anyway. No letters, no fines, no worries as tanks would say ! Maybe not the smartest move but it worked.
My Dometic windows bulge out past the 2500, I suppose you could call that overwidth but I wonder how the lasers distinguish between mirros, lights etc ?

Re: awning transport
I'm assuming the OP has been satisfied, and our discussion should not bring down the wrath of the Law on all Rvers out there.
Why the re-regos?
I bought in Qld, and registered it there as the stamp duty was cheaper. I lived in NSW and figured that registering it there 'added value' as Qld registered vehicles were renowned for not meeting ADRs. I went to Tassie, changed the car over and bus as no annual inspections like NSW, but later realised that it was too easy to be proven we didn't live there (just had to check our Spirit of Tasmania tickets, or lack of them), then decided Victoria would do, and proof of residence was easy, although their inspection was thorough, I should have registered at a small country town rather than Geelong. The Toad is registered in WA, but will change over to Vic rego before Xmas.
The bus has never failed an inspection. The car failed in Tassie because it had a twisted seat belt. I shut my mouth, drove around the corner and unwound it, drove back and asked for a re-inspection, which he passed.

Re: awning transport
I reckon there is a good market for tape measures that are not accurate.
+15% reading for bus drivers
-15% for fishermen, they should sell well!
Nowhere to recess it even, conflicts with the stairs.
No awning would be no fun

Re: awning transport
I have long thought that with the advent of those fold up/down gazebos they use at markets, that they would make a better awning, especially if you use fly screen walls on them. I like the small awnings over the small windows, they protect from the heat, but the main awning I could easily replace with a fold up gazebo and be a happy camper.

Dot, we're talking transport, width measurements and awnings. (just conserving electrons by discussing on one Forum Topic)
What's that got to do with man boobs?
Bruce, can you please write another letter please?
