Re: 12 volt ceiling fan
Well ceiling installed yesterday & he won- it is over the bed. A little noisy for a minute or so until settles but then OK. Had it on last night until about 2am when got a tad cool. It is hanging in that small pressure vent in the roof, which we never use anyway & can easily be put away in winter.

Re: 12 volt ceiling fan
We use the ceiling fan at home the same way Kay, and reverse it if we have the heater on so Peter's idea of a reversing switch makes good sense. In the Mazda we have a Fantastic fan vent over the bed with a Maxxair vent cover to keep the rain out, have it on the IN setting at night to blow a gently breeze over the bed, makes sleeping so much easier when it's stinking hot, but at around 4am it's time to either wake up enough to find the switch or feel around for the blanket and pull that up. Have it on the OUT setting during the day to keep the heat down by venting the hottest air near the roof outside. Still need to fit the air con unit up front, it sure gets hot inside in Mannum during the day. I'm thinking of making up window shades made from that bubble wrap type foil covered insulation Airoshield Retro shield I think it's called and attach them on clip locks to the outside of the windows and see if that helps.Macca wrote:Well ceiling installed yesterday & he won- it is over the bed. T1, Have a look at Greenstuff Insulation that they use to line the walls of sheds with. A mate uses it in his Hi-ace and he reckons it's OK. We also have some inside the skylights of the Winny, but have yet to test it in the heat.
Cheers

On the little fan front. Next door to useless. Didn't expect it to be of much use and it wasn't.

Yeah, the bubblewrap stuff is great. Makes a big difference.

Put in a split system, and use the fan on that....huge volume of air and no noise. We have two 10 speed Maax Fans but have stopped using them as the aircon use little more power, and is silent

Re: 12 volt ceiling fan
Well this small $19 ceiling fan certainly is not useless. We also have a Breeze (square) 12 volt fan, also good. As far as using aircon the genny has to be started when not on 240 power, apart from the fact we do not like being "closed in" with everything shut. When we have to have the windows on the western side of the van I have made shades from the heaviest shade cloth which just slide over the wound out windows.
Terry I have made bubble shades to attach to the inside of the windows in winter & it certainly makes for a warmer inside.
