Leather Armchairs - noisy.

Post by Chuck »

The chairs in question came with the van, they're leather on a recliner frame - the type that the base slides forward, but remains flat, whilst the back drops down & back & has fixed leather arm rests that rub against the seat as it slides forward... creating a squeaking noise. The recline mechanism is a fairly simple chrome rod that slides through a fixed plastic type of frame adhered to the base of the backrest... that also makes a groaning type of noise. Not quite as bad as it was yesterday after I gave it a squirt of Lanotec... but now thinking perhaps wipe that off & add a thin smear of Vaseline or similar. :?

But how to stop the leather squeaking noise... that is bloody annoying?

Suggestions...

Chuck how old is the leather? Have you fed it yet?
We do our lounge about 3 times a year & we notice how it softens it up once done.
You can get good expensive stuff from the up market furniture shops or get the cheaper "leather cleaner" or we've used the leather dressing from a sadle /bridle horse shop.
On the otherhand if you leave too much on the leather it gets hard to 'slide' on it. Grippy even.

Well, the van is 10 months old & came with an open - lidded - container of leather wipes... so assuming it was done at least once prior to our purchase & Navigator has wiped them over once since we've had it... but possibly not in the area causing the problem.

Hang on & I'll give that particular area a wipe over...

Edit: That did it... no leather squeaking now.

Thanks for the suggestion Boss - the simplest ideas often work.
