It is a club and a corporation and we cannot go back. I would like the corporation to succeed as I get the benefits. I don't need the club so much as I have a pretty good circle of RVing friends.
One of the candidates could be good for both club and corporation. I have had a few one-on-ones with him and he does understand that the directors seem very hard to access. Bit hard for the board to do what the members want if they don't listen.
The only real way for change of focus to happen is if a lot more of the not-so-interested go involved in the voting process.
This is my personal view on the matter and has nothing to do with the forum's views.
The largest RV group in the USA have both and the corporation acts in the direction the club wants it to go. I see no reason the CMCA could not be set up the same way. Sadly, the way I see it, the corporation uses the weight of the club membership as a tool in its drive to become a bigger and bigger business enterprise rather than using its financial advantage to drive the club to greater heights. Those that were members of the club back when it was closer to the founders model know all to well just how much has been lost as far as a club once the corporation started running the show. I would be coming up to my 20th yr of membership now if I'd remained financial but I was so disillusioned with the direction the corporation was taking the club I decided after 15 yr continuous membership that I no longer wanted to finance the corporation or be used as a means to its end, so I dropped my membership.
What have I lost since I let my membership lapse? A lot of frustration and internal turmoil caused by trying to fight to get the club back in the drivers seat, but that's about it.
If the corporation was being honest with the membership they would publish how many financial members it still has within the "club" not nonsense about how many new memberships each quarter without mentioning how many members walked away. Govt bodies aren't fooled by the nonsense about the number of memberships the corporation claims are behind them. The caravan parks organisation can and does produce proof of its membership so they get heard, simple as that, without the solid backing of real figures the CMCA is ignored and always will be until they introduce some form of transparency as to just how much clout they really carry. Loose the backing of the club and the corporation will collapse loosing all the money the club has earned to date, remember that the corporation could not generate an income without the club, but the club generated an income long before the corporation existed...... time the CMCA board looked at which side its bread is buttered on....
